That wasn’t the offline mode we requested
If you planned a bit of Diablo IV over the weekend, you probably noticed that it was impossible to do. The servers have been down for over 10 hours, starting early Sunday morning, thus ruining many players’ plans for the day. The outage was disclosed by Blizzard as the result of a DDoS attack against them. It wasn’t just Diablo IV that was targeted, the attack made any Blizzard game that requires you to be online all the time completely unplayable.
This attack demonstrates one of the many arguments people have made about a real Diablo IV single player. The current game requires you to be online all the time, and losing that connection means you can’t play anymore. This would make sense if you were actively involved in leaderboards or want to showcase your skills in Hardcore mode as an online connection can detect and report any hacks or exploits being used.
For those of us who just want to break buttons and slay monsters, who don’t care about their ranking, the current state of affairs sucks.
