Backlinks and SEO optimization are drowning out content
You may have noticed that it’s getting harder and harder to find answers to questions on the internet or find things for sale from local vendors lately. You can blame this on the hottest technological topic going, the so-called AI. SEO optimization has met LLMs and companies offering SEO optimization are in love with it. They have found a way to automate the creation of unique product descriptions that are ridiculously long and full of superfluous text that no one in their right mind will try to read. The problem is, Google Search absolutely loves it, sort of SEO-optimization candy.
It is fast becoming necessary to use these SEO optimization services for a business to have any chance of showing up on the first page of Google results. It’s also starting to swamp informational searches in addition to shopping links, not that bad yet but getting worse every day. The need to use services to make yourself visible in search results means that descriptions, backlinks and other SEO optimization tools will only make matters worse, as LLMs will need to provide unique descriptions for similar products. Soon the junk text created by SEO optimization will far outnumber human readable text or at least bury it so deeply that it will take a second LLM to make it useful.
By the way, SEO optimization.
